Dear 5th Grade Families,
Welcome to Tolt Middle School! Our staff is starting to prepare for your student to be a 6th grader with us next year, and we want to do everything we can to help them have a smooth transition into middle school. It is a privilege to partner with you in your student’s success at Tolt. Below is some important information as we all start to plan for next year.
Elementary School Visits: Tolt counselors will visit 5th grade classrooms in the Riverview School District on the following dates to provide information about Tolt, share course selection information, and answer questions:
• Carnation Elementary: Thursday, February 24th
• Cherry Valley Elementary: Friday, February 25th
• Eagle Rock Multi-Age: Wednesday, February 23rd
• Stillwater Elementary: Tuesday, March 1st
5th Grade Parent Night Video: On Wednesday, March 2nd, we will release a 5th Grade Parent Night Video for parents and guardians to watch at their convenience to start to learn more about our school, how we transition students into middle school, and receive course selection information. The link to the video will be posted on our website and emailed via Constant Contact.
Language Arts and Math Placement: Placement into language arts and math classes is based on a self-select model. Parents and guardians are encouraged to read about their options at and take time to carefully select with their student the language arts and math classes that will appropriately challenge them.
5th Grade Transition Event: This special event will be after school on Thursday, June 2nd . This will be is an opportunity for all 5th grade students to meet our 6th grade teachers and start to learn about Tolt. Details will be shared closer to this event.
Back-to-Business Day: Students and parents are invited to Tolt on Monday, August 29th , from 8-11AM, and 12-3PM to take care of back-to-school business. This includes paying fees, picking up PE shirts and shorts, getting bus information, giving our nurse medications, receiving class schedules, and more. Attending this day is optional as many items can be taken care of online.
First Day of School: On Tuesday, September 6th , only 6th graders and 8th grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) leaders will attend school in the morning; all students will attend in the afternoon. Our WEB program helps 6th grade students connect to school through community-building activities led by 8th grade student leaders.
Curriculum Night: Parents and guardians can look forward to meeting their student’s teachers on Thursday, September 22nd.
