Tolt Middle School

Technology Student Association (TSA)

Tolt Middle School students can join the school's Technology Student Association, or TSA, which offers students a chance to explore technology after school through either hands-on, on-site activities, and/or self-driven projects for competition at state. If your student is passionate, or wants to be passionate, about technology, this is a fantastic opportunity for them.

Fees to join TSA:
Membership in TSA costs $25. Checks can be made out to Tolt Middle School and taken to the main office. One fee covers participation in any branch of TSA. If students are interested in competing at TSA State, costs for hotels, food, and registration will be approximately $280.

TSA this year has been split into two branches. Students may participate in either one or both.

Branch 1: Competing at State

If your student is interested in completing a project as an individual or a group for competition at TSA State in Seatac (March 22nd-24th). They will need to attend meetings with Ms. Farrell in Room L902. The first student informational meeting is October 10th after school. There will be a parent informational meeting at Cedarcrest on October 17th at 7 PM. Meetings will generally be held Tuesdays after school and will alternate between CHS and TMS.

TSA Meeting Schedule

If students are unable to attend the CHS meetings, that is completely fine! I just ask that students please stop by the following day to see what they missed.

Oct 31 (CHS)
Nov 14 (TMS)
Nov 28 (CHS)
Dec 12 (TMS)
Jan 2 (CHS)
Jan 16 (TMS)

If students are interested in competing at TSA State, costs for hotels, food, and registration will be approximately $280.

In the past, students have competed in video game design, Junior Solar Sprint, children’s stories, forensic technology, and many more. More information on events offered this year can be found at

Branch 2: After School Hands-On Experience

If your student is looking to explore technology after school with friends through building robots and collaborating on a Minecraft build, then Branch 2 might be a great fit for them.

Timing and Schedule
Meetings take place from 3 pm to when the activity bus arrives (see below) in L911 (Mr. McFarland's Lab). Branch 2 is broken into 4 sections throughout the year in order to give student athletes the chance to participate at some point in the year and to allow as many students as possible to challenge themselves with technology.

Section 1: October 23rd -- November 7th -- Robot League: Season 1 -- Teams of students build robots that compete in a final game. They will draw up engineering plans, collaboratively build their robot, professionally present to engineers, and then compete in a game against other robots in a Tolt Middle School intramural competition. There will be opportunities for programmers, digital artists, and photographers, related to the robotics competition.
